INCORPORATIONS14 November 2013
Made out of battered Ikea table tops the Incorporation series was born in 2013.
The Ikea tables are surgically dissected in certain parts of their surfaces and elements are removed from them, to be replaced by others. The whole process is akin to a medical operation with the parts that are swapped resembling organs, instinctively relating these assemblages to the human body. The Incorporations reflect on the increasingly fused relationship between the objects we consume and our bodies; in the way that many products are literally becoming extensions of our limbs.
In the most recent example of the series, Appetite for Great Design (2014), a resin cast of an Ikea table incorporates ash and fragments of discarded packagings.
